Hello
and welcome!
Hello, hello! My name is Bri, and I am a 22 year old
native Floridian. I have loved books ever since I was a child, and that love
has stayed with me as an adult. I mainly read Young Adult literature with the
occasional Urban Fantasy or Romance read on the side. I have a bunch of
favorite books and series, making it impossible for me to only choose one title
as the favorite. Being an extreme
wimp, I tend to shy away from anything remotely scary, which includes
frightening ghost stories and zombies. (When I first read an R.L. Stine book in 2nd grade, I
cried. I wish I was lying!) Hence, I love adorable, swooning romances, paranormal
and fantastical reads, and gripping dystopian novels.
I recently graduated from Duke University after
majoring in Environmental Science and Earth and Ocean Sciences and minoring in
Japanese. I am a HUGE Duke Blue Devil fan, and I can get really intense come
NCAA basketball season, especially if Duke is playing UNC. (Some people tend to
avoid me during that time.) After graduation, I ended up getting a job as an
English teacher in Japan, so I am currently teaching middle school and
elementary school students how to use polite English words/sayings instead
of the bad words they learn from movies. This experience in Japan has truly
been enriching, and I will be taking back many stories! One of my personal
favorites was when one of the 3rd graders at an elementary school asked me why
Florida was shaped liked a boy's private parts. (I was unable to answer. ><)
Since coming to Japan, there were many instances
where I would not have an English class, and with a lot of free time on my hands, I
found myself reading more and more. I decided to try out reviewing and
discovered that I really enjoyed it, so I started Storybook Escape in December
2011. I have fallen in love with blogging, and I love meeting fellow
booklovers and fangirling over books (and book boys)! :D
In the off chance I am not reading/reviewing, I am
usually:
- poorly dancing to some KPOP or alternative rock tunes (favorites: Breaking Benjamin, Cold, SHINee, 2NE1, BIG BANG, B.A.P., DBSK)
- mashing things up on my PS3 or PSP
- watching classic Disney movies
- working on my novel that never seems close to finished
- studying Japanese and Korean
- catching up on American shows (favorites: Bones and Criminal Minds)
- travelling throughout Asia
- taking care of these little guys
