differently from book stories and I want to make sure readers get an actual
book to read.

- I’d like to see someone with some hero cred play Sam. Sam’s a little guy, but
he stands up for what’s right and he won’t be pushed around by anyone. How about Joel Courtney? He did an excellent job in Super 8.

- She’s a real challenge for an actor to play: a girl with schizophrenia. You have to make her both realistic and
sympathetic. It was a real challenge for
a writer, so I know it’d be hard for an actor.
I guess I’ll stick with Super 8 - it was a very well-acted movie - and
pick Elle Fanning. She’s got real actor chops, so she could handle it.
Jeff Winger - he’s a scary thug, but there’s
also something kind of pitiful about him.
Maybe Devon Bostick, who was the older brother in Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

when Sam needs him most. It takes someone
who can project authority and decency but also capture the fact that a lot of
times adults have their own worries and can’t always give 100 percent to their
kids. How about Gary Oldman, the guy who
plays commissioner Gordon in the Batman movies. He’s a great actor and has all
those qualities.
